Welcome to our newly launched blog! In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) we have created a blog to share survivor stories and messages of hope to individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence. The Houston Area Women’s Center’s mission is to help individuals affected by domestic violence in their efforts to move their lives forward. Since our incorporation in 1977, we have worked hard to do just that, and much more. We have a 120-bed emergency shelter, a 24-hour multilingual hotline, children’s court services, counseling, advocacy, and more–all confidential and free of charge.
As the CEO and President, I am excited for the unveiling of this blog as it provides a way for our clients and staff to share their personal stories here at the Houston Area Women’s Center. Unfortunately, domestic violence and sexual abuse are issues we must deal with every day. Here, we can openly talk about it, learn about it, and find the means to move on to a better life and a brighter future. If you are a survivor of domestic/sexual violence and would like to share your story or simply ask a question, you’ve come to the right place. Thank you for helping us in our fight to end domestic and sexual violence, and once again-welcome to our blog!
